Address as Castle Row 1858, 1868 & 1869 Valued at £540 in document dated 25th July 1889. Benjamin Lister was discovered at Kilverstone on 27th November 1902 with a pheasant in his hand and a gun under his right arm. When challenged by gamekeeper William Maud, Lister had said that he thought he would have one for Christmas. Charged with trespass on the lands of Mr. Vaverseer and of killing game without a certificate, Lister was fined 30s, or fourteen day detention, in each case. Purchased by E. C. Quilter 01.04.1905 (Bidwells) Licence refused at Compensation Authority meetings of 21st and 23rd June 1909. Reported as a beerhouse, owned by Eustace Cuthbert Quilter and run by licensee Benjamin Lister. At the meeting of the Norfolk Licensing Committee, held Wednesday 15th December 1909 it was reported that trade of the house was :- 59 barrels per annum, which at 10s a barrel, over 10 years represented a value of £295. Minerals sold were 149 dozen per annum at 6d per dozen, which on 10 years trade was £37 5s. The rent was £15, which at 18 years represented £270. £5 was allowed for depreciation. Mr. W. Smith, Auctioneer and Valuer said that without a licence, the house was worth £160. The Committee agreed to pay £447 5s in compensation. |
