Lot III in sale of properties held 23rd July 1785. Described as "All that well-accustomed Inn.... consisting of a Kitchen, two Parlours, several Bed-chambers, a Brewhouse and two Cellars; and a large Yard adjoining the said Inn, two Stables and several Outhouses, in occupation of Mr. Robert Tuddenham and the said Shelford Bidwell. Also the Weighing Machine standing upon the said Premises." Rent in May 1837 was £20 per annum. Valuation given 25th July 1889 as £900. On Monday 28th February 1898, Mr. George Robins was granted permission to open his house for trade between the hours of 5 to 5:30 a.m. in order to provide coffee and other necessary refreshment to 51 workers who then proceeded to Elvedon. The Bench made the condition that only the Elvedon workmen were served and that the house was to close again until 6:00 a.m. Referred for Compensation 24th December 1927. Demolished c1928 |
