The property of the late Mr. C.
Boucher, sold to Mr. G. Mills, Brewer of Downham, by April 1871.
Licence refused at the previous licensing meeting since the rateable
value was under £8.
The Bricklayers Arms at Walpole St. Peter had been purchased at the same
time and Mr. Mills was prepared to spend £150 on the two, in order to
improve the properties, but could only do that if the magistrates were
prepared to grant new licenses. The magistrates refused to give such a
guarantee.
