On Wednesday, 28th November 1817, a party was given
by Mr.
Charles Heading. There were 26 guests, half of which were
soldiers.
On 28th January 1918, Downham
Rural Food Control Committee instigated a
prosecution under the Food Orders, since nineteen pounds of
meat were served as well as three ducks, the total
weight being estimated at 20½ lbs. Only 5 ounces were
permitted to be served to each person, while the excess
served was over 8lbs by weight.
Landlord Brown had charged 7s 6d
per head and no register had been kept.
The Chairman of the magistrates
considered that the regulations had been broken and imposed
a fine of £10 for serving the meat, 10s for not keeping a
register and 10s for not keeping vouchers to certify the
food purchased for the dinner.
Mr. Heading, the organiser of the
party, was considered the worse offender and was fined
£15
with 4s costs.

A meeting of the Proprietors of the Estates of Tottenhill met here Wednesday
14th July 1779 to settle some matters relating to an Application to
Parliament concerning the Act affecting the lands within the Parish of
Tottenhill.
The Watlington Bowls Club, who the village playing
field, obtained a licence to provide refreshments during the summer for
members, their families and visitors. In September 1977 the landlord of
the Angel reported that the club sold beer at 24p a pint and their
overheads for a year were much the same as his for a week. The rent of
the Angel was to rise by 90% over the next three years, and by losing
about a third of custom to the club, the future of the Angel was bleak.
Landlords Peter Overson and Shaun Bell also at the
Carpenters Arms, East Winch and the Three Horseshoes at Roydon.
