On Monday 25th January 1897, the magistrates refused to grant a licence for Mr. James Rumbles. They said there was sufficient doubt about the application to warrant refusal, they would however grant temporary authority to him in order that Mr. Bidwell could find another tenant. |
On Monday 8th August 1904, Robert Thacker was questioned as to why he was not contributing 1s 6d per week towards the upkeep of his father, who was an inmate of the County Asylum. This amount he had been paying until 26th December 1903, but owing to his wife becoming ill, the Guardians had excused payment until 26th March and then extended the exemption to 25th June 1904. Thacker was a pig dealer and publican, he also farmed some 6 or seven acres of land. His wife was still ill and the public house trade was bad, he drew no more than about half a barrel a week. He offered to pay 1s a week and the Bench made an order for that amount. Licence considered unnecessary at the Annual Brewster Sessions, Monday 6th February 1905. Renewal to be considered at the adjourned meeting.....
