John Filby Ward was required to attend the Court
at East Dereham on 19th January 1860 for his First Examination of Debts.
At that hearing Mr. Ward was described as an
insolvent, formerly a mail contractor and publican. Messrs. Strangleman &
Dyball opposed the examination on the grounds that goods had been obtained
knowing that there were no means to pay for them. The insolvent ultimately
passed the examination.
On 21st February 1860 a Final Order on the
Matter of the Petition would be made. (Mr. Ward then described as Publican
and Mail Contractor; before that, Dealer in Bread Flour, and Offals, and
Schoolmaster and Postmaster.)
