For Sale by Auction Saturday 19th January 1788. With Yards, Stables, Outhouses and Brew-house, at the yearly rent of £10, Copyhold to Binham Priory. The auction was held at the FLEECE INN, which at the time was run by John Buck. The Wells Manor Records provide the information that on 26th February 1808 the Public House, commonly known as the Wounded Hart with Brewhouse, Outhouses, Hereditaments and Appurtenances, late in the occupation of John Buck, was admitted to William Greve. Location said to be at the East End of the Staithe, in Wells. The property originally having been four Cottages or Coal-houses. In September 1954, a newspaper article made reference to the 1793 Wells census, which was carried out by the Rev. Samuel Horsfall. One of the many yards named was Wounded Hart Yard. |
