Sales of property were held at the GIBRALTER ROCK, 1827 and 1833. At other times, before, during and after those dates, the house is named as the GIBRALTAR, or GIBRALTAR INN. (i.e. May 1829, October1831 and August 1833 as Gibraltar Inn.) By order of the Trustees of the late Mr. John Wright, the Free Public Inn, was to be Sold by Auction, Friday, 30th August 1850. With Brewhouse, Stables, Yard, Garden and other conveniences, well situated on Wighton Street, and for upwards of half a century been doing a most respectable and lucrative trade. Having been found guilty of permitting gaming in the house and of having a charge of selling beer at illegal hours dismissed, on 15th December 1862 Mr. Robert Powell was cautioned in the way that he ran the house and the language he used to the police.
