Depending upon whose history is referenced either became Governor of Independent Hungary
and Father of Hungarian Democracy, or Dictator of Hungary.
Defeated 1849 by joint
Russian Czarist and Austrian forces, Kossuth initially fled to the USA but spent his final
45 years in Britain and Italy promoting Hungarian Independence.
The Austro-Hungarian Empire formed following his defeat.
A middle-class demonstration of support for Kossuth and Hungary took place
at the Hannover Square Rooms, London on Thursday 13th November 1851. Madame
Kossuth, attended by Madame Pulsky and other ladies arrived shortly before
one o'clock and immediately Kossuth himself arrived to a tremendous volley
of cheering and enthusiastic waving of hats........
