ADMIRAL VERNON COW HILL, St GILES
St. MARTIN AT OAK
St. PETER MANCROFT

Admiral Vernon took the port of  Porto Bello (Portobello) from the Spanish in 1739.
He is credited with the introduction in 1740, of watered down rum rations to his crew.
Vernon apparently had the nickname of `Old Grog' and so the reduced rum ration took on the name of Grog.
