The Norwich Mayoralty Court Book records that two persons were put in the stocks for drinking * brachet and being drunk at Brangwyn the Cook's, St. George Tombland, 27th September 1624.

Brangwyns, described as a tiplers in 1628.

According to internet sources, Brachet is said by one source to mean a Brat or Spoilt Child. Another learned site gives the definition as meaning a Bitch Hound.
Drinking any of those would merit more than a visit to the stocks!
Seemingly there is another meaning to Brachet.

Braquet is a grape variety which appears to be the beverage in question.
