One of 40 houses named as being engaged for the Reception of Freeholders for Sir John Woodhouse and Sir Edward Astley's Friends on the Day of Election, Wednesday 14th April 1784. Listed as the OLD CAT & FIDDLE from 1811. Application for licence under the name EDINBURGH CASTLE refused Monday 26th August 1867. Licence again refused 1868.Licensed as the EDINBURGH CASTLE from at least 1879. Cat & Fiddle Yard survived to 1967 when the area was cleared for redevelopment. |
