Licensee Edmund Craske given 1842, probably at house pre 1840.

Modernised 1983. "Not spoiled unduly - clean bar and plush lounge in two parts

Refurbished by Whitbread at a reported cost of £100,000 over a twelve week period, completed April 1988.
Described as having `removed a few walls, moving some doors and rearranging the bar'. The interior decorated with `a mixture of grey, pastel pink, red wood, brick, glass and brass'.
Space said to have been increased by a third and providing an open plan pub with two wings.
(Corner entrance blocked up)

Refurbished over a ten month from October 2008 to return the business to a public house rather than the "posh French restaurant" it had become under previous tenants.

Refurbished 2015 with wooden floors throughout, a comfortable seating are with leather sofas and plasma televisions for sports channels.....

House no. 516 on 1845 Magistrates list.

In 1961 the BYSTANDERS FILM CLUB commenced a survey of Norwich public houses.
Unfortunately, by 1968 the challenge remained unfinished and Watney Mann had taken over the local breweries....Toilet facilities (Conveniences) were rated on cleanliness and general standard.
This house was rated as follows:-

Lacons No Draught Cider
Darts Conveniences 4½ (5 being the best)
Parking Canned Music
We had this address as 1/3 Coach and Horses Street, but *Mr. Percival has altered all that!
This is a good example of the first class jobs Lacons make renovating old (and not so old) pubs.
Very good prints - Fores's Constraints.
Bitter.
Our architectural expert describes the exterior thus:- Regency Pastiche (New Dingly Dell).
Acid etched glass panels depict coaches and, surprisingly enough, horses.
Clock slow!

* David Eyre Percival - Norwich City Council Planning Officer 1955 - 1973.

The Norwich Pub Survey of 1986, compiled by the Norwich Society, in association with Norwich City Council, assessed the house:-
Approx date of building Listed Quality Pre-war fittings surviving
External Internal
19 & 20C No 7 5 No
Main structure of building may be mid 19th C and part of the now demolished Crookes Place artisan suburb but extensive reworking of the exterior and interior by Lacons in their 1920's Georgian type style has obscured the date of the building.
Interesting 1920's rework to exterior, possibly the fullest expression of the Lacons style.
Note the Lacon Falcon model in panel on single story brick extension.
Two bars, Public bar and Lounge with smug off Public bar.
Low ceiling.
Carpet tiles, leatherette and wood slat bar counter.
Lounge bar - Low ceiling, flock wallpaper divided into panels by modern painted studwork.
Fitted velvet upholstered settees arranged to create intimate grouping.
New exposed brickwork piers.
Metal grillwork between seating bays.
High deep picture moulding used to display trinkets.
All modern.
