On Tuesday 26th December 1843 the Magistrates discussed the continuation
of this `low house'. The Mayor wished to suppress all those houses
known to bear a bad character.
The tenant, Mrs. Moore said she had recently taken on the house and had
		not been aware that
it had a bad reputation. She had been advised by Mr. Youngs that she
would do very well in the house. She believed the house
could not be run in a respectable way and would be glad to be rid of it.
The house was said to stand in an open public situation and was more
exposed to public view than many worse houses in the city.
"This is a house that ought to put the brewers to shame".
The Magistrates decided to discontinue the licence.
