Offered to let August 1857, then in Full Trade and owned by Messrs. Seaman, Grimmer and Co., Wine Merchants, Norwich. On Tuesday 18th August 1857 it was heard that a man named Turner was acting as landlord whilst Henry Buttle was absent. Turner had taken part in a bet between three other men, by turning cards for them in a bet for £5. The Bench informed Buttle that he was responsible for the actions of his deputy, even though absent from the house. Fined £3 and costs. William Steward was accused, Thursday 29th July 1858, of having his garden open and supplying customers with ale and porter. On the previous Sunday, Police-constable Cullington had observed, at twenty minutes past four, people smoking and drinking. The constable said that this had happened before and he had warned Steward. He was then accused of grossly neglecting his duty for not previously bringing charges. It was heard that Steward, in consequence of high winds, had employed several persons to look after the canvas erected for the assize week. He had given them beer, not selling any. Reminded that no person was to give away beer at exceptional times, the case was dismissed. Address as 93 Thorpe Road before 1905. Renamed the MUSTARD POT 1966 |
