Listed in 1811 as at Pottergate, but no licensee named. Bedford Street according to Walter Wicks. It was published 8th April 1815 that following celebrations of the Peace on 23rd March last, a mob had broken into the public-house of George Darkin, St. Andrew's, destroying the furniture and causing considerable damage to the house. Not being a felony, the magistrates could not award damages but on the 24th March 1815 the Court of Aldermen voted to donate One Hundred Pounds. Unfortunately the Common Council of the City dissented therefrom. A Public Subscription was therefore in operation to raise remuneration for his losses. Different Banks about City would receive the subscriptions. Some 40 donations had already been given ranging from £2 from the Mayor to 6s each from Mr. Danser and Mr. Marstin. The total so far being £50 4s |
