Jeremiah Alborough is known to have taken out licenses from September 1816 to September 1828. The 1822 entry in Pigot's directory indicates that his wife (?) was running the house. Jeremiah is again named at the house in 1830. |
Also given as the GATEHOUSE TAVERN Located in the building to the South side of the Ethelbert Gate, inside the Cathedral Close. Location also as Tombland. October 1811 - All persons standing indebted to the late Elizabeth Thompson were instructed to send their account to Mr. J. Youngs at the New Brewery, King Street and all persons who stood indebted to her, at the time of her decease, were desired to pay the sum immediately to the said Mr. John Youngs. The Royal George Masonic Chapter held a meeting on 24th July 1818 at the Gate House. |
