Address as Coslany Street in 1830. Church Street St. Miles in 1858 & 1868, St. Miles in 1879 and as Church Street in 1892. Offered to let from Michaelmas 1851 - Applications to Youngs, Crawshay and Youngs, Brewery, King Street, Norwich. Offered To Let 7th May 1859 with Immediate Possession, in consequence of the decease of the late landlady. Apply Messrs. Youngs, Crawshay and Youngs, King Street, Norwich. Daniel Freeman was accused on 9th October 1879 of having persons in his house, drinking until 1:15 am on the 3rd October. The persons included two soldiers who were lodging at the house and two women who were their companions. Mrs Freeman thought there were about 5 women and 8 men, including the lodgers, not the 13 or 14 men that had been claimed. She claimed that no money had been taken and the two Royal Dragoons did not order beer or pay for any. Another lodger, Mr. Frost had paid for the drinks. The Bench thought the case to be a very gross one and believed that the practice had been going on for some time and a repeat would lead to licence endorsement. The owners, Messrs. Youngs, said they would see that there would be no reoccurrence and their representative said that the evidence of the landlord and his wife was not very credible. Fine and costs totalling £6 7s. At the 1908 Sessions it was reported that the house was very old and had been well conducted. There were 15 other licensed houses within 200 yards. The licence was provisionally refused 05.02.1908 and referred to Compensation. Closed under Compensation 01.09.1908. |
