Charles Zipfel of the HAND, Elm Hill, married Miss Morris, of St. Martin at Palace, on Thursday 10th September 1807. Mr. C Zipfell, from Germany, advised October 1807 that he had entered the house and sought the patronage of his Friends and the Public in General. It was to be noted that Clocks of all sorts were made, sold and repaired on the same terms as at his former residence, the LION & CASTLE, St Johns Timberhill. There was a handsome and fine-toned Musical Clock to be sold. Listed 1811 but no licensee given. Not found as a public house after 1822 Mr William Trory of Hungate was elected a Guardian of the Poor on Monday 6th April 1831 and again on Monday12th September 1831 under the New Act. In February 1845, brewer William Tory was named as one of 180+ members of the Company or Partnership known as the East of England Bank. 12 year old William Townshend Trory was one of the 80 victims of the collapse of the Great Yarmouth Suspension Bridge May 1845. His body was identified by his father, William Trory of George Street, Gt. Yarmouth. In September 1849 there is a William Trory in occupation of a small farm, next the street, in Hickling. |
