On 16th June 1866, Henry Taylor left his cob and cart in the shed oh the
(Royal) OAK at Catton. He went inside for refreshment and leaving some
ten minutes later found his `turn out' gone. Daniel Docwra, dealer, was
later discovered to have taken the reins and caused damage to the extent
of £4. Docwra claimed he had been given permission to take the cart and
that the damage was an accident. The judgement was that Docwra had no
authority to take the cart and had rendered himself liable for the
mischief which had ensued, he also had to pay court costs.
