King Street, Crook's Place when offered For Sale by Auction, Tuesday, 21st March 1854, along with the St. Miles Brewery, Coslany and three other public houses. House described as comprising tap-room, parlour, nine-pin ground, club-room, cellar, two bed-rooms, wash-house, &c., &c., together with a Cottage adjoining, in the occupation of Cook. On Saturday 25th May 1889, landlord Henry Roll was fined 5s with 7s costs, or seven days detention, for furious driving on Castle Meadow on 21st May. Police-constable Ebbage claimed that Roll had been travelling at eight or nine miles per hour. 187 Essex Street from 1912 Damaged by enemy action 27/29th April 1942.
