Address as Oak Street Gates in 1845.
As at Oak Street 1865, 1868 & 1869.
St Martin at Oak 1879.

Lot No. 5 (of 11) in the sale by Auction of property including Dwelling Houses and Cottages, to be held Friday 18th August 1843.
A Free Public House, without St. Martin's at Oak Gates, comprising a large and convenient house, very large garden, and a very fine meadow, abutting the river, by which a good business in letting boats is carried on.

On Monday 28th July 1862 Mr. William Smith of the King's Arms was seriously injured when firing the cannon, placed on the river bank near the ferry for saluting, when the barrel burst. Splinters struck Mr. Smith's leg very forcibly, and the injury so severe that it was feared that amputation would be necessary. He died five weeks later.

John White was known as the “Gateshead Clipper” who broke many running and “pedestrian” records around the country. In the Illustrated Sporting News and Theatrical and Musical Review of the 15th February 1864, at a race at Hackney Wick, he was described as "the very beau ideal of the athlete”. His trainer and backer was Bob Bunn, landlord of the STAR & CROWN, later (1871) of the ROSE INN.

On the afternoon of Monday, 16th September 1878, Mr. W. Sadd held an exceedingly good show of fruit, flowers, and vegetables in a marquee erected in his pretty garden on the banks of the river.
Mr. Sadd had a fine show of gladioli, asters, and fushias.
First prize of a silver lever watch was gained by Mr. W. Hardingham for a fine lot of dahlias. The prize offered for hot-house plants and fruit was a set of hot-water jugs.

Licence exchanged (in part) for the DUN COW, St Martins in 1932.

Licence provisionally refused 9th February 1932 and referred to Compensation.

Closed under Compensation 12th November 1932

House no. 362 on 1845 Magistrates list
