Mr. Alfred Robert Arnold applied, Monday 23rd August 1880, for transfer of the licence to a house on the corner of Cathedral Street and Prince of Wales' Road. He sought to hold a six day, short hours licence instead of the current seven day licence. There had been previous opposition to an increase in public houses in the vicinity since traffic on a Sunday was numerous, and it was feared that noise and traffic would be increased on Sunday nights. This fear would be alleviated by a six day licence. Had the vicar not been out of town, he would have also been one of the 50 of 60 residents of Prince of Wales' road to sign the petition against the house. Application refused. At the Norwich Licensing Session held Friday 24th August 1900 there was objection to licence renewal owing to the rear of the premises sharing access with adjoining cottages and the shared access often being locked, preventing police communication with the back doors. Decision to be considered at another date, at the adjourned session. Licence provisionally refused 5th February 1908 and referred to Compensation. Closed under Compensation 1st September 1908. House No. 366 on 1845 Magistrates list. |
