Proceedings were

He was fined 5s with 11s costs for having his house open at illegal
hours on Sunday 27th August 1865 |

Also given as STEAM PACKET.
Located at Finklegate next to Norgates Court.
Seems to be the STEAM PACKET as given at King Street by Hunt in 1850 and by Melville in
1856.
At the Annual Licensing Meeting 28th August 1866 it was
heard that John Mayes had previously been convicted of keeping his house
open during prohibited hours on a Sunday, but had also been summoned for
threatening the life of a man called Tyzack, who he believed had informed
against him.
Mayes presented a memorial in favour of his licence being renewed, signed by
some of the parishioners; but being so drawn up so as to reflect upon the
decision of the Bench, asserting that Mayes had been informed against by a
person unknown, for some cause unknown, the licence of the house was at once
cancelled.
At the licensing sessions held Tuesday 27th August 1867 it was heard that the
old house had been demolished and a new one would be ready for use in about
one month. A new licence was issued to William Legood, but the name
STEAM PACKET is not found
after this date. However Mr. Legood is at the
NEW INN from
1867.
