    Cain Abel is given in the 1842 trades directory as being licensee at the
	
	MERMAID & FOUNTAIN and (at the)
	
	THREE QUARTS. The address (of 
	two houses?) being Bridge Street, St. George's.
	
	In 1845 he is named at the 
	TWO QUARTS
    
	 Robert Pearce is at the MERMAID & 
	FOUNTAIN 1853
    
    
 
In 1853, Edward Chapman (36), labourer, was 
	charged with assaulting licensee Robert Pearce following a game of 
	`Tip-cat'. Chapman was fined 21s 6d, which was paid. The alternative being 
	fourteen days in prison.
	The police had orders to arrest all parties engaged in the game of `Tip-cat' 
	and it was reported that cases were very rare.
