On the night of Saturday 23rd October 1852, Police-constable John
Hartley heard noises coming from the beerhouse of Mr. John Selph (Self).
He knocked for admittance but was refused entry. On the following Monday
the licensee said that he believed it to be a drunkard at the door,
since he had been frequently been tricked by such people pretending to
be police officers. Fined 2s 6d and 11s 6d costs.
Licence refused at Annual Licensing Day 1st September 1857. Address then
given as Coburg Street.
