Known from 1324. Mentioned 1391. (A lintel reading `Princes In' found above the door of the SHIP possibly originated at this house). Location originally as Hungate Street, which became Prynce Inne Lane in 1497 and Prince Inn Street from 1509. Gentleman, John Dawson of Framlingham, Suffolk and Sarah, his wife, released on 22nd March 1672, the PRINCE'S INN to William Burgesse, carpenter, then occupied by John Becroft and Joel Sargeson, or their undertenants. Brewer John Barker is here in 1678 as well as licensee Stephen Rose as recorded in the Mayoralty Court Book. Listed 1811 at Hungate Street but no licensee given. Mentioned 1st January 1817 in the conveyance of a dwelling house and shop. The property for sale was said to be ` Bound by Kings Highway or Street to the south and by the PRINCES INN to the west. ' Location given as at St. Peter Hungate in January 1829. |
