Henry Comer is given as a baker in St Benedict's Street in 1868, no mention of beer. As named in 1871 census. Un-named beerhouse in 1875. Known as the COLCHESTER ARMS by 1877 It was reported 2nd July 1870 that two squares of glass in the beerhouse of Mr. Comer had been broken. Mrs. Comer said that earlier, the same person had tried to cheat her out of 6d. Robert Rainbird, labourer, was sentenced to two months in prison, and in default of paying costs of 8s 6d, for fourteen day more. |
