    Mentioned 1760 - 1806

In a trial held 28th October 1807, John Upcraft was accused of being
involved in a case of smuggling, uncovered at Cawston in 1806.. He was
found not guilty through lack of evidence.
The report of the trial places Mr. Upcraft at the Sawyers Arms to at
least October 1806. In October 1807 it was confirmed by one witness (Mary Franklin) that he was then running the BULL & ROPE, Norwich, although the newspaper
report of the trial said he was still at the SAWYERS ARMS.
