Amongst the attractions Mr. Kerrison had arranged for Assize Week, commencing 21st July 1845, were a Concert sustained by Military Brass, the ascent of a large Montgolfier Balloon and a display of Fireworks. Admission 6d, to be returned in Refreshment. On Saturday 11th April 1846, Mr. George Clarke undertook to walk 1,500 miles, in 1000 successive hours, at the West End Retreat Gardens. By Thursday 16th April he had completed 432 miles and appeared not to be at all fatigued. On 30th April it was reported that he would complete 684 miles by that evening. By Thursday 14th May he had reached 936 miles. His only problem was being awakened in the mornings. He completed the 1,500 miles on Saturday 4th June 1846. The Household Furniture, China, Glass, Eight-day Clock and Small brewing Plant, the property of Mr. John Kerrison, was to be Sold without reserve, Thursday 19th August 1847. A `Grandes Fetês Champêtres et Bal d' Eté ' was to be held here during the Assizes as advertised 27th July 1850. Grand concerts were to be supported by Mrs. J. R. Stephens of the Metropolitan Concerts, Mr. George Carman of the principal London Concerts and Mr. Harry Fox from the Royal Casino, Manchester. There were to be Extraordinary performances by Professor Mori & Sons and Signor Volanti from Franconi's Cirque Royal, Paris. There were Fruit Gardens and a Splendid Pavillion for a Salle de Danse....
