On Tuesday, 29th November 1910 Edward Spall was due to go before the justices to perfect the transfer of his licence, and to pay some bills in the City. He attended the office of the Guardians and paid an outstanding rate. He did not attend to the licence transfer. <It was reported Friday, 2nd December 1910 that the transfer had been granted on 29th November.> In the evening of the 29th, he had a glass of ale in the Steam Packet, King Street. He did not return home. His body was recovered from the river at 10:00 am on Wednesday morning (30th November). On Friday, 1st December the Coroner said there was no doubt that it was a deliberate act of suicide. The jury returned a verdict of suicide whilst temporarily insane. |
