By 1871, John Brewster Cross is given as a butcher at Town Green,
with no mention of beer.

A timber framed building dating from at least the 17thC.
John Overton announced 2nd September 1809 that he would be taking the inn
from Michaelmas. He promised good stabling and every accommodation for both
man and horse.
Originally a thatched building, an etching of which appears in Edwin Edwards book of `Old
Inns' published in London 1880.
An adjoining cottage and shop, owned by Cann & Clarke in the late 1800's were partly
incorporated into the public house.
