Built on the site of the SAWYERS ARMS.
(Destroyed by fire in 1841) ** On Tuesday 23rd August 1892 it was heard that within a little more than a year, the tenant had twice been before the court. At least one magistrate considered that the house should loose its licence.. Another magistrate said it was a matter of locality and customers rather than management - a weekly change of manager would have no effect - the house should be shut. Messrs. Lacons had decided to remove Alfred Garrod and he had departed in June 1892. Licence renewed to Walter Ellis Tuesday 20th September 1892. Referred for Compensation 4th March 1913. Licence renewal considered 11th July 1913. The licence expired 30th September 1913. Licence renewal had been refused 11th July 1913. Became a private
dwelling. See page 87 of ` Gt. Yarmouth
