Licensee Bowen appeared before the magistrates on Monday 22nd October 1855. Persons had been found drinking in his house at 2:00pm the previous day (Sunday). He apologised and explained that those present were neighbours who were served before closing and had become involved in a `mardle'. He was dismissed with a fine of 2s 6d. South Market Road 1863 42 Market Road South 1886 Chief Constable B. W. Smith objected to licence renewal Friday 12th February 1932. In February 1938 the Town Clerk advised the Property Committee that Messrs. Lacon would be given Notice to Quit and the licence be transferred to premises on Wellington Pier. The licence to be held by the manager of the pier. Licence renewal withheld Friday 18th February 1938 pending removal and surrender. Decision to be made at adjourned sessions 11th March 1938. Closed for the duration of WWII according to a letter to the magistrates dated 22.08.1941. Not found after 1941. Licence suspended from 1943 |
