Charged on Saturday 9th April 1859 of, on the previous Thursday, grievously assaulting and beating his wife. A repeat offence, he was bound over with sureties of £20 by himself, and two others of £10 each, to keep the peace for three months.

John Brown, formerly residing at the Jolly Waterman, Fuller's Row, carrying on the business of Publican, and at Ferry Boat Row as a Fishcurer and Cooper; afterwards of the Jolly Waterman, also occupying a Fish-office and Cooper's Shop in the Ferry Boat Row, Beerhouse keeper, Fishcurer and Cooper; then of the Jolly Waterman and Coopers Shop in the Ferry Boat Row and carrying on the business of Beerhouse Keeper and Cooper; Now of Row 12, Journeyman Cooper and Labourer...... To appear before the Judge at the Court in Great Yarmouth on 19th May 1857 ....... For the First Examination of his Debts, Estate and Effects.....

  On 17th June 1857, the Petition of John Brown was to be heard.

The Eastern Daily press of Thursday 17th May 1877
reported that James Allcock had been summoned for having his house open out of hours. On the Sunday morning previous at a quarter past ten, Police Constable Johnson visited the house and found four men in the bar, two of whom had beer. Maria Allcock appeared on behalf of her husband, advising that he was away. She did not deny the offence and was fined 5/- and costs.


W. J. Dye applied for a music licence on Thursday 23rd April 1891 - Refused.
