Hall Quay 1863 & 1864 Hall Plain 1865 An extraordinary Storm struck the area on Saturday 2nd August 1845. Amongst the damage caused, part of the roof of the Yarmouth Arms was blown off. A young female, Susannah Muttit was the only serious casualty, having been blown off her feet and thrown violently into a pool of water. Wet to the skin she was taken home and confined to bed for several days, suffering from the fall and fright. From 30th January 1846, a rendezvous was arranged here for the purpose of obtaining able and ordinary seamen for her Majesty's Navy. Persons 20 to 45 being eligible. Landsmen being chiefly rejected, while able bodied seamen immediately being put in the receipt of 1s 3d per day. Proceeding to London for examination, if accepted, immediately taken into service. If not, then to be paid off in London. Licence dropped Monday 28th August 1865 in consideration of new licence being granted for the ARMY & NAVY TAVERN. | |||||||||||||
