On Tuesday 21st
September 1915 it was heard that Mr. Pipe had traded in Lynn for 50
years and had carried on an extensive business until the previous year.
Although the premises of the Crown were very small, a large outdoor
trade in beer and spirits had been done. In a previous year, a trade of
5,000 dozen bottles of beer and more than 300 barrels of beer had been
achieved. Mr. Pipe confirmed that he had brewed some of the beer he sold
and had obtained supplies from other brewers. His profit on wines,
spirits and mineral waters was greater than usually taken into
consideration by the Committee, since he traded directly to the
consumers in small quantities. Two-thirds of his business had been
outdoor trade to over 500 customers in town and district.
Mr. Pipe was awarded compensation of £2,000 for closure of the house. £800 to be paid at once and the balance to be paid within a year since the Committee did not have sufficient funds to settle the matter immediately. |
