The UNICORN to 1892 On Monday 29th February 1904, Mrs. Wickham applied for renewal of the music licence. She said that she had a `Free and Easy' on Saturday nights. A man played the piano and no ladies were allowed in the large music room, generally there were about forty people attending. There had been no complaints. When Sergeant Rayner visited at 8:30pm on the previous Saturday, there had been only one customer in the house. Licence refused. Market Day licence granted (1956 ?) 138⅛ barrels of beer sold in the final year of trading. House
stood in an area known as Baxter's Row, the centre of the flour & bread making
industry. |
