Not identified prior to 1871. Damaged by enemy action :- 13th March 1941 10th November 1941 & 27th July 1943 An application made Monday 26th August 1901 for a full licence was opposed by Messrs. Eyre & Co, Steward & Patteson and the Colchester Brewery Co. The Chief Constable pointed out that there was a fully licensed house adjoining on one side and another fully licensed house, on the other side no more than 50 yards distant. Representatives of the Free Church Council and private residents were also opposed. As it turned out, Mr. Greenwood had sent a letter to the Bench withdrawing his application. At the same meeting Messrs. W. & T. Bagge sought permission to extend the premises. The Justices deferred a decision in order to give opponents a chance to give their opinions. Full licence awarded 8th January 1962 upon removal from the DOCK HOTEL. Closed following complaints from neighbours of excessive noise and consequent refusal of licence on 4th January 1993. |
