As the Dun Cow Farm in 1851 census.
James Larkings is in occupation of a Dwelling House and Grocer's Shop in
July 1859.
William Beckett Prior of Aldeby had paid 1s 4d to the Fisherman's Sick
and Burial Society every month from 1858. His last payment had been 21st
August 1869. In March 1869 he had entered the Dun Cow and a drunken
William Greengrass challenged him and kicked his leg. Since then Prior
had been lame and unable to work. Under Doctor Crowfoot he had received
a certificate to receive pay for four weeks. He subsequently made a
claim from the Society for four week's sick pay at 10s per week, which
was refused by the Secretary of the Society, who happened to be William
Greengrass.
At the Beccles County Court, Tuesday, 24th August 1869, His Honour
considered Prior was not totally incapacitated according to the rules of
the Society and so was not entitled to pay.
S&P report prepared for Watney Mann in May 1969 stated that the structure was poor and
damp. Immediate closure was recommended.
