given in Trade Directories to at least 1892, however named the
FRIENDSHIP, 23rd December
1890, at a hearing regarding an alleged indecent assault on 20th
December 1890.
The FRIENDSHIP at the time
the licence was transferred to Mrs. Manthorpe, on Tuesday, 20th
August 1895, following the earlier death
of Robert Manthorpe.

Dick advises that
during the last evening of
trading, the beer supply ran out unexpectedly early.
It became necessary to drink the stocks of Queen Anne whisky.
This is thought to explain how the old tyre, that had surrounded the dart board, found its
way onto the fire. Late in the night saw the exit of the last of the customers - all with
soot and smoke blackened faces. |
