On Saturday 3rd July 1880 it was reported that landlord of the house, Frederick Reeve, had heard a crash in his porter room and found six panes of glass broken. His wife had seen Mary Ann Richardson, a pedlar, break the windows.  Found guilty, Richardson was sent to prison for two months with hard labour. The Chairman remarked that she had been there so many times that it was no use in fining her, as it had not had a deterrent effect on her.
<Robert Norton is named at this house in trade directories for 1875 and 1879. He is again here in the period 1881 to at least 1883.>
