On Friday 3rd March 1905, William Secker applied for licence renewal. There had been no complaint against the licence holder and the house had been well conducted. It was believed  that the the previous licensee, Mr. Barker, had been at the house for 25 years.
PC Moore said that the house was a small one and only 67 yards away from the GEORGE HOTEL and 216 yards from the CHEQUERS. The 28 dwelling houses in the Swaffham Road were chiefly occupied by people of the labouring class.
