For Sale by Auction Wednesday 23rd May 1855 by order of the Trustees of the late Mr. Thomas Ramsdale, Deceased. Lot No. 12 of 17. On Thursday 4th June 1857, landlord Oakley and passenger Wells, in transit from Wood Norton, were thrown from their cart when the horse was suddenly frightened by a passing railway train and ran up a steep embankment. Passenger Wells was much injured, but Oakley was only slightly bruised. Bombed during a Zeppelin raid at approximately 9:00pm on Wednesday 8th September 1915. Customers Harry & Sylvia Johnson were seriously injured. The roof was destroyed and the house never reopened as a Public House. Referred for Compensation 01.03.1918. Licence extinct 08.03.1919. |
