It was reported 17th March 1781 that James Tompson was committed to the
Castle, being one of about fourteen members of a desperate gang, who had
entered the house of Thomas Diggens on 15th October 1781. After breaking
all the internal doors and not finding him, they swore that they would
murder him "the first time they could happen of him, and with
imprecations declared they would have all the money in the house"
A reward of £100 was offered for the apprehension of any other gang
member,.
