Mr. Thomas Tufts was originally an engineer on a farm before
becoming landlord of the "Village Off-licence house, a pork butcher
and purveyor of milk".

In 1835 & 1837 George Wicks of Helhoughton is owner of
freehold cottages in the occupation of
Himself, George Wilkin, and others, and the public house
WILLIAM
IVNo beerhouse yet found listed after 1836 and before 1875.
It was reported 4th September 1875 that Arthur Richard Cock's
had applied for a licence, the Marquis Townshend having closed the only
public-house in the village, the
BUCK.
In 1875 Arthur Cox is given at the
GREYHOUND, this is the only sighting of a house
by this name in Helhoughton, the
BUCK is also
recorded.
John Ringwood applied for a licence to sell beer off the premises, 27th
August 1877 - Granted.
No beer retailer has yet been identified in the village from
1922 to 1925.
In 1929, 1933 and 1937 the
BUCK is listed as well as
a beer retailer - Mr Harper.
S&P business record BR 259/71 gives a closure date of 10th
February 1958 for
THE BEERHOUSE in Helhoughton.
The licence being surrendered.
Sales in year prior to closure - 6 1/8 (Barrels) = about 34 pints
per week.
