The magistrates ordered temporary closure of well of water on the
premises of the White Horse Saturday 1st September 1900. The well was
used for drinking purposes and had been found contaminated with
sewerage. The Inspector of Nuisances reported that one family who had taken water for drinking from the
well had
been afflicted with four cases of diphtheria. Steward & Patteson agreed the well should be closed on a temporary basis.
16 barrels of beer sold in year prior to closure.
