Lot No 10 in sale of John Day's Brewery 9th May 1795 -

Spirit licence granted 2nd September 1865.

Given as WHITE HORSE 1865, 1868, 1871, 1879, 1883, 1888, 1896, 1900 & 1904

The magistrates ordered temporary closure of well of water on the premises of the White Horse Saturday 1st September 1900. The well was used for drinking purposes and had been found contaminated with sewerage. The Inspector of Nuisances reported that one family who had taken water for drinking from the well had been afflicted with four cases of diphtheria. Steward & Patteson agreed the well should be closed on a temporary basis.
