William Ellison applied for a licence at the Annual Licensing Meeting held Monday 30th August 1859. On a division the numbers were equal, in consequence the licence was refused. William Ellison gained a (new) full licence at the Annual Licensing Session held Tuesday 4th September 1860. Stood on the West side of King Street opposite Carrow Bridge. Referenced as the BRITISH LION in 1864 & 1871 Conveyed by Henry Staniforth Patteson, Donald Steward and Others to Colman's 1886. At the Licensing Sessions held Wednesday 20th August 1889 it was proposed that the licence of the BRITISH QUEEN and that of the GARIBALDI be given up exchange for a new licence, for premises on the corner of Magdalen Road and Knowsley Road. The applicant was Mr. Blofield on the behalf of Mr. Arthur Thomas Towlson. The application was opposed by several parties, and as in the previous year, the application was refused. Licence given up 21.08.1890 upon removal to the DUKES HEAD, St. Paul (Renamed the STANLEY at the time of opening). |
