Also found as GARIBALDI'S Address in 1868 given as Pitt Street. It was proposed at the Licensing Sessions of Wednesday 20th August 1889 that the licence of the BRITISH QUEEN and the GARIBALDI be given up in exchange for a new licence, for a property to be erected on the corner of Magdalen Road and Knowsley Road. The application was made by Mr. Blofield, on behalf of Mr. Arthur Thomas Towlson. The application was opposed by several parties, and as in the previous year, the application was refused. Removal of licence was however granted 21.08.1890 and confirmed on premises at St. Pauls, to be known as the DUKES HEAD. Licence to be held by Arthur Thomas Towlson. Name changed from DUKES HEAD to STANLEY ARMS 23.09.1890. House stood approximately in the position of St. Marys Methodist Chapel. |
