On Saturday 14th May 1859 it was heard that shoemaker William Brown was charged with stealing three brass candlesticks from the Lord Nelson Tavern, Princes Street, kept by Mr. Hewing.

Mr. Joseph Hewing is given at the PLUMBERS ARMS from at least 1850 to 1875 and before him, William Middleton is given at both houses in 1845.
